Another reoccurring post, Hit & Miss, will feature two songs: one which I think is a hit and one which I think is a miss. Pretty simple. Today’s post features two songs from the same artist–Kelly Rowland. She’s had some, well, difficulty since leaving Beyoncé’s womb, and with the messy start of her current era, things still aren’t looking good.
“Commander”, follows a string of hits produced by David Guetta, including “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas, and Guetta’s own smashes “Sexy Bitch” featuring Akon and “Gettin’ Over You” featuring Chris Willis, Fergie, and LMFAO. Considering his current track record on pop radio, this would have been a no-brainer to release in the United States. Sure, it is a very dance-influenced record, and a few years ago, I definitely wouldn’t have recommend it, but with the wave of dance tracks infiltrating pop radio, this would have been a perfect summer jam.
While this track is produced by Dr. Luke, another huge radio hit maker, it unfortunately doesn’t sound much like any of the huge pop anthems he is responsible for. It’s alright, but nothing distinctive or catchy enough to finally break Kelly Rowland in the United States.
